About the event

This training is an introduction to the concepts of trauma informed care and how to help all health care staff adopt a “trauma informed lens” when initiating and providing care for patients.

The training will review the basics regarding the definition of psychological trauma and how trauma connects to diagnosis. The individual, community and environmental causes of trauma will be discussed, as will the subjective nature of trauma response, the importance of relational health, and the promise of post-traumatic growth. The basics of trauma neuroscience will be reviewed as well as what interventions help regulate a distressed nervous system. By the end of the session, each attendee should be able to start assessing and supporting clients using a trauma-informed approach.
