About the event

This training will focus on the benefits of
using Interactive Journaling® to engage DWI School
participants in the process of lasting behavior change.
Methods for shifting the responsibility and initiative for
change onto the participant will be discussed, as well
as facilitating the program using a client-centered
approach.

About the trainer

Karen Hellman. MA. LISAC, MAC has over 27 years of experience in addiction treatment, corrections, and administration in a variety of roles. In 1993, she graduated with a BA in Psychology from Hunter College, then continued her education obtaining a MA in Forensic Psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in 1996. During her career she has worked in a wide selection of settings including juvenile corrections, community providers, county jail, and adult corrections. Prior to retiring from the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation, and Reentry in 2022, she served as the Assistant Director for Inmate Programs and Reentry. In this capacity, Karen oversaw Addiction Treatment, Sex Offender Treatment, Educational Services, Religious Services, Reentry Services, and Community Corrections. She served on a multitude of legislative/governmental workgroups regarding service provision, boards, and commissions.
